Instructor Development Course (IDC/IEC)

As you have found already since your first breath underwater to your professional courses as divemaster/assistant instructor the feeling of passing on your passion and enthusiasm to others is amazing. The Instructor Development Course and Evaluation will change your life in so many ways both in the diving world and outside it.

Continue to share your love of the underwater world working alongside a family of international instructors. Stay local or travel the world with an expertise and knowledge that is common globally.

The SDI Instructor Development Course has been created and developed to give active Divemasters or Assistant Instructors the opportunity to safely apply standards and procedures for diving training as an Open Water Scuba Diving Instructor. This program is divided into two segments, the Instructor Development Course (IDC) and the Instructor Evaluation Course (IEC).

We focus on you as the individual and your success never having more than 5 students per instructor trainer. We will make sure that you, the future SDI instructor, are well prepared for your role in the diving industry. For us it is not only your success during the SDI diving instructor examination (IEC) that counts, but also your further path as an instructor.

During the entire IDC we will hold theory, confined and open water sessions using the course materials and gain confidence in how to pass on that knowledge and skills to your students. At the same time you will get a clear understanding of the SDI training philosophy and get to know the programs available for it. For these programs we organize workshops where you can gain practical teaching experience.Join us on the next IDC and become an instructor in the SDI TDI family, a proud and elite team of professional diving instructors and trainers.

The full-time course with us lasts a total of nine days. It includes all training of the Instructor Development Course (IDC) and the Instructor Evaluation Course (IEC) which is completed directly after the IDC.
The part-time course includes the same content as the full-time course, only the implementation of the content is spread over five weekends, with the IEC taking place on the last weekend.
The course will have at least 100 hours training and at least 50 under direct supervision of our team. All courses are designed to fit to the student level and will expand as required to meet comfort and completion requirements from students and instructional staff.

How do I prepare to take the course?
To prepare for your IDC, we offer you free participation in our IDC preparation course (Prep Course). In this prep you can refresh your aspects of your diving theoritical knowledge for example physics and physiology. We conduct this prep course as an online seminar. In addition, you have to master all the skills of the OWD course and rescue scenarios and should practice and refresh them again in the weeks before your participation in the IDC.

Contents of the Instructor Development Course (IDC)
As part of our IDC’s, we prepare you for the examaination to become an Open Water Scuba Diver Instructor (OWSI) and an instructor for five SDI specialties. We recommend training in deep diving, navigation, nitrox and two other specialties of your choice. Of course there is the possibility to be trained in other specialties, just talk to us about it.

Are there different scopes of IDCs?
With us there are no content-related differences between so-called Basic, Advanced, VIP or otherwise named courses. IDC is IDC and at the end of the course you should be able to train your future diving students well. Other than our free preparation course the only diference is your choice of the specialties you want to teach after the course and the dynamics of the group. We are looking forward to you and your comrades-in-arms!
